A monorail is a railway system in which the track consists of a single rail, typically elevated and with the trains suspended from it. The term is also used to describe the beam of the system, or the vehicles traveling on such a beam or track. This type of transportation used to be very popular in the 1950’s through the 1980’s. Right now they are planning on developing a monorail system in the Financial District in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. But this is not the monorail systems they use in Dubai for building development.
The monorail systems that are used in building access maintenance are typically used as a window cleaning system. At this point it is the most cost-effective system developed based on the purchase of the system, the cost of running it, and overall operations process cost which involved personnel. This system has changed the way building owners clean and access their windows at different points on the building. The monorail is actually a fixed bar like element that is found on the outside of the building. When you combine that with a powered cradle, you have a monorail system.
During the time of planning the layout of the structure, it is up to the developers to determine what kind of monorail system they want to use for their building.
